Lisa Minder and Wu Yuntao, a pair of Beijingers, have been working with Hegezhuang villagers and officials to develop rural courtyard housing for people who want to escape the bustling capital life. Beyond just restoring village properties, the Real Life project is modernizing while keeping the relaxed, village spirit alive. It also provides a good income for the other residents, a collection of migrants and ancestral locals.
