Get Fit the PLA Way

Tuesday, December 20, 2011 | By:

Tired of shiny modern gyms, vitamin drinks and yoga balls? Here are some decidedly low-tech exercises that will guarantee you reach peak levels of fitness, given the right amount of dedication (screaming staff sergeant optional). Try to pack in four or five sessions a week covering the exercises below.

Centipede bullet

Bounce a distance of 100m in the push up position.

Duck steps

Open up your feet, squat down, place your hands on the back of your head and walk. This may look silly but is great for building lower body strength.

Wheelbarrow

One soldier stands on his hands while another holds his legs from behind as they walk forward in unison. This may look naughty, but it’s a bona fide shortcut to Conan-like upper body strength. We think.

Frog leaping

Keep the duck step position and jump instead of walking.

Jogging with weights

Jog five kilometres with sand bags on your legs and bricks in a backpack.
