Movie Night: Angel with the Iron Fists
Friday, December 9, 2011 | By: Liz Tung (董怡)
It doesn’t get any better than this 1960s, “Jane Bond” spy caper. Directed by Hong Konglegend Lo Wei (who is famous for having launched the careers of both Jackie Chan and Jet Li), “Angel with the Iron Fists” (《铁观音》) features the perfect mix of deadly vixens, Go-Go Gadget spy accessories, and Tarantino-esque camp.
Here’s the plot: Hong Kong has been overrun by the Devil Girl’s Gang, a worldwide group of femme fatales who kick off the movie by murdering an Interpol agent. Cut to our hero—the gorgeous and mysterious “Jane Bond” (Lily Ho Li), who lands in Hong Kong with a cache of diamonds, having just escaped the clutches of a murderous mobster. At a nightclub, she meets jewel-dealer Cheng Tiehu (Tang Ching) and his girlfriend Miss Dolly (Fanny Fan), both members of the Devil Girl’s Gang, who set about to first swindle our hero, and then bring her into the gang’s clutches. “Jane” becomes an integral part of the organization, which at that moment is engaged in a nefarious plot to take over the world with a new wonder drug… Secret lairs, ridiculous outfits and double-agent deception ensue. Try and follow all the twist and turns to see who’s good and who’s evil!
Come by for drinks, some classic cinema and a copy of our latest issue!
