This month our movie night jumps from horror to 80s Hong Kong flicks. First in line is this Tuesday’s “The Last Message” is, a 1975 Hong Kong comedy that takes place in a mental hospital (because, as everyone knows, there’s nothing funnier than mental illness). Directed by 80s comedy legend Michael Hui, who also stars in the film along with his brothers Samuel and Ricky Hui, the story kicks off with the admission of a crazy old man named Cheng Ming (Roy Chiao). Nurse Lee (Samuel Hui) and orderly Tim (Michael Hui) soon get fed up with Cheng Ming’s habit of dragging around a bag of trash—until they discover that the junk inside is actually a bunch of broken artifacts from the Ming Dynasty. Bent on hunting down the rest of the priceless loot, Tim and Lee find themselves struggling to unlock the secrets of Cheng Ming’s addled brain.
