Heading to the movies? Check out China’s latest sci-fi flick, “Animen.” Directed by Xu Ke, it’s kind of a big deal here—it is, after all the first 3D animated film to come from the Chinese mainland.

The film is set far into the future. Space exploration has led to the colonization of other planets, and humans have also begun experimenting with genetics— reconstructing their own genes to include lizard, frog and roach sub-species.

Everyone then starts battling to take control of the galaxy. (Well, we couldn’t have them getting along now, could we?)

So yes, it’s basically an animated film about aliens shooting other aliens. It’s been five years in the making, and the screenshots released so far promise an action-packed ride.

You never know, this film might make history. It could ignite China’s 3D film industry—and you can say you were there. – N.C.
