October 1 is the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Another “golden week” is upon us! During this seven-day holiday Chinese will be heading home to spend time with their families so brace yourself for packed trains and over-booked flights. If you are in Beijing, the most iconic place to be on Oct 1, head to Tian’anmen Square where the founding of the PRC was first celebrated 62 years ago. Go not just to be awed by the awesomeness of the crowds paying homage to their nation, but to catch a glimpse of the National Day Red Lantern which will be on display as a symbol of luck, prosperity and happiness.
