China’s “Most Influential Person”, Chen Guangbiao likes to make the headlines. When the eccentric multimillionaire is not heroically dragging bodies from debris caused by earthquakes, he can either be found handing out cans of ‘fresh air’ to save people from China’s smog, giving out thousands upon thousands of winter coats to the needy, pledging to donate his wealth to charitable causes or just simply trying to buy up the great newspapers of the world to aid peace and understanding. See, the man has a lot to brag about, so he does.
In fact, for anybody who is not sure who he is and what he had done for his country, he lists out his achievements on his English-language business card. And it is an impressive list. On it he claims he is: China’s most influential person (Mao is no longer with us after all), most prominent philanthropist, a moral leader, an earthquake rescue hero, ‘most well-known and beloved Chinese role model , a top ten honorable volunteer, most charismatic philanthropist (yes, he is a philanthropist), environmental protection top advocate, and an environmental protection demolition expert. And breathe.
Sadly, Chen seemed to have run out of space on the business cared or he no doubt would have mentioned that not only is he the county’s most humble man but that he also has the nation’s most perfectly rectangular haircut (for a philanthropist anyway).
