When traveling around the world you try to gather a little bit more information about where you’re travelling, and articles like ‘The 10 Unfriendliest Cities in the World” tend to grab your attention.
Conde Nast Traveler has recently the 10 least friendly places on earth and Beijing ranked number six. The results of Conde Nast Traveler‘s Readers’ Choice Survey aren’t exactly scientific – it’s an online survey that anyone can take – but thousands of people participate each year. The survey ranks hotels, cruises, beaches, and cities, reports Business Insider.
The word “unfriendly” in this case does not necessarily mean that the people in that city are unfriendly, rather, the survey gathers more definitions that have to do with attitudes. For example, Johannesburg, South Africa is on the top of the unfriendly list, but the reasons for that are : “Despite its beauty, Johannesburg has a reputation as an unsafe city filled with crime and the danger of traveling alone there.” Beijing is on that list because it’s “terrible pollution” and “dirty streets” detract from the city’s beautiful attractions.
China Daily had its say on the ranking:
US travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler has published a list of the world’s most unfriendly cities for 2014 upon which Beijing is ranked at number six. The magazine thinks that environmental pollution, traffic congestion and overcrowding are the main reasons for being on the list. The top city on the list is Johannesburg, and there are three well-known romantic French cities on the list: Paris (#4), Marsailles (#4), and Cannes (#2).
How about you? Where do you think China ranks?
