In China, graduation often means giving your teachers a gift to express gratitude for the education that you have received. Teachers have received all sorts of gifts in their tenure so coming up with something original would require thinking outside of the box.
A graduate student, Li Hao, studying at the art school in the Graduate School in Shenzhen, Tsinghua University, decided the best present would be a practical one. Something that could be used daily and would give the user pleasure.
Li settled on vibrators.
Wrapped in packaging that resembled that of mobile phones, Li handed out these self-pleasure devices to ten teachers. On the outside of the packaging, he had stuck on a QR code. Unfortunately, scanning these in would not direct the teachers to the nearest sex shop, but rather to words that Li wanted to say to them, as well as photos.
To describe this as surprising would be an understatement. Li has always been a model student, winning the praises of teachers and students alike. He has won many awards during his education. He says that his choice of gift directly relates to his field of study, industrial design. In fact, he has studied them during the course of his education, and admires their multifunctional abilities, whilst still being able to seem innocuous.
While most people may feel that gifts such as sex toys may be inappropriate for teachers, the culture of gift-giving has become somewhat stale, with the same products being presented most of the time. Relationship with the receiver is also an important part of determining whether or not to go ahead.
But in this case, the teachers happily accepted the gifts, so at least this story has a happy ending (forgive me).
