Why Kobe Bryant is called the "Iron Man"?

06·04·2015

Kobe Bryant, one of the most popular NBA players in history, might have not be caused any commotion on the basketball court for some time, but is sure making waves on Chinese internet. He recently updated his Weibo status by saying: It’s been awhile since I’ve been on weibo. I see there’s some new web lingo. Can you teach me some? What does “da tie” mean?

The post immediately became viral, within two days it already has more than 25000 comments. 打铁 in Chinese means to forge iron, but in basketball terms it indicates when a missed shot hits the basketball hoop. Such irony was entertaining to Chinese netizens. There was much to make fun of, because even though Kobe Bryant is practically a legend, he is also known for missing many shots:

Machy: “Da tie is what happens after you shot, old man.”

Hht – TaiJason: “Bro, you are the best Iron Man in NBA history.”

江南焚:It means nice shot[笑cry][笑cry][笑cry]

FNumber3:just like Harden, BUT! u r the king of DATIE

Somnus丶YN:Some say Kobe is a symbol of ‘Da tie’

希望大家都喜歡秀妍:it means those shots you missed, and its what u do every night.[哈哈][哈哈]

Most of his fans, on the other hand were very supportive:

唐超凡_:Boss, you are the best, f**k the blacksmith

意大利先森:It means nothing, but you are the best in our heart forever

WQH囍:dear, u always ‘da tie’, but i am still your fan .forever.
