IShowSpeed’s “Chinese Uncle” Puts Rongchang on the Map
“Brother Braised Goose” Liu Jiang, renowned as the beloved Chinese uncle of American livestreamer IShowSpeed, has turned his hometown of Rongchang in Chongqing into a viral tourist hotspot during this Labor Day holiday
Rongchang, a district in southwest China’s Chongqing, went viral after IShowSpeed’s “Chinese uncle” heavily promoted the local braised goose during the livestreamer’s tour in the country.
Weeks after the stream, over 2 million domestic tourists flocked to the city during the Labor Day holiday, devoured 290,000 geese, and even dined at government canteens, where meals cost just 2.5 US dollars.
It’s a prime example of how China’s lesser-known places are leveraging viral online campaigns to boost tourism and the local economy.
