Description

The blue and white porcelain reflects the globalization of China's aesthetics. The style was born during the Yuan dynasty with the import of blue cobalt from Persia and perfected through the Ming and Qing dynasties. Blue and white is not as simple as it sounds: Cobalt pigment can be mixed into over various shades of blue. In past few centuries, the elegant style of porcelain has been exported to all around the world, and thus adopted different themes: from George Washington's porcelain plates to the Islamic calligraphy in Turkey’s Topkapi Palace — the Chinese blue and white has found its way into all kinds of culture.
