Ultra-bionic Humanoid Robots Went Viral: Is This the Future of Emotional Companionship?

July 10, 2026

Shenzhen-based UBTech recently launched its UWORLD U1 ultra-bionic humanoid robots, sparking controversy over their hefty price tags and the ambitious vision for robot companionship. Prices range from 119,800 yuan for just a torso and a head to the 990,000 yuan full-body movable version—available only to adults.

According to UBTech, these robots not only boast hyper-realistic appearances but are also capable of responding to human emotions. The robots can also be customized in appearance and personality—all designed to tap into China’s booming “loneliness economy” and provide emotional companionship.

But is society ready for such intimate human-machine relationships?
