2025 ISSUE 2

Smart Nation

AI tools have never been more accessible. In China’s classrooms, both educators and students are facing an unprecedented technological leap that promises to revolutionize how knowledge is acquired. AI is also helping rural China address challenges like pest control, while easing the paperwork burdens of local officials. Meanwhile, China’s savvy merchants are leveraging AI abroad to boost sales.

Beyond AI, we spoke with adults with ADHD about navigating diagnosis, stigma, and finding support online. We also examined the rise of Pangdonglai, a regional retail chain in Henan that gained fame for its hard-to-replicate business model.

What’s more, we visited Beijing’s academic bars, where a lecture often costs the price of a cocktail; dined at bistros serving southwestern cuisine that has popped up all over the country; took in the stunning landscapes of Altay in Xinjiang; and picked up gadgets from the country’s booming ACG-themed stores. Enjoy the read!
